3 Hours, 75 Project Managers: Improv Workshop at Siemens

Goal: Interactive event for employees to reacquaint after the pandemic and to bring humor to the end of a week-long workshop

This introduction to Improv went well. We started with a crazy warmup called “Near and Far”. Each person secretly picks someone in the room that they will physically stay close to and simultaneously picks someone they will stay far away from. Video highlights from this workshop are coming soon!

Imagine 75 people carrying out those instructions and you have this physical, shifting mass that dissolves into humorous chaos! Lines of people snaked through the room with people glued to each other. One person found themselves to be the pick of about 10 others. He must have been popular for a reason.

This was the perfect warmup for a group of people who needed to reconnect after not seeing each other for several years. The exercise requires no talking, encourages eye contact, and makes good use of all the space in the room.

How do you show project managers that Improv will help impact their day-to-day responsibilities? This was challenging because they had to overcome being project managers.  They had to think on their feet and follow the rules of the exercise. At least project managers love rules! What we did achieve was demonstrating how Improv could positively impact their attitudes and interactions. Many times, they saw for themselves the positive energy that Improv causes and how it could translate to helping them apply the new skills in their work. Video highlights are on the way!
